Directed Reading Thinking Activty (DR-TA)
The DR-TA strategy focuses on critical thinking during the reading process. This instructional technique invites students to make predictions and then check and revise those predictions during and after reading. An important point for DR-TA lessons is having students provide proof from the texts that back up their predictions. DR-TA helps learners have a purpose for reading and provides a frame for self-monitoring because the students pause throughout the reading to check their understandings.
